Discovery Auction Piece

Ah...my love-hate relationship with auctions. Finished it this afternoon. 8 hours of drawing. I actually started another piece about a month ago, (mixed media, Acrylics/Oil) but I grew to love it too much, so for the moment I'm keeping it.

New Drawings

Yesterday I worked quite a bit...playing around with some new ideas...I am enjoying the "flow" I get into doing these labor intensive drawings...I have never really worked like this...just trying to play around a bit and find work that feeds my creativity...so far, it's working.

Working!

I have been working a lot in my studio these past few weeks...I haven't been very good at photographing what I'm doing, but maybe this weekend I'll actually clean the space, so I can take some photos of the work without tripping over easels!

At times it has been really fun...and at times, really frustrating...I'm working on 4 paintings and they are completely different from each other...in subject matter, (1 figure, 1 landscape, 1 still life, 1 just plain weird) and in techniques. I mean, on the one hand I feel really great that I am not limiting myself and just exploring and having fun...but on the other hand, I want to focus on one thing and just excel at it...own it...Sometimes I just feel I have so much inside that it just spills out...like when you tip a glass over and the gin-n-tonic just goes in every fucking direction.

I need a mentor...you know, like when I took piano lessons...and she would just say, "Amalia, do THIS...stop playing Stairway to Heaven and just practice The Juggler."

Of course, the amazing thing is that I manage some time in my studio every day...and after years of not working in my studio, I'd say I'm off to a good start...

OK...off to drink that GnT before I spill it.

Drawing

Today I picked up a 3B lead pencil and one of my numerous unfilled sketch books and I drew my foot. I am going to try to draw a few times a week to get the feeling back and remember all those things I learned so long ago, but rarely practice.

Current Painting, WIP (Work in Progress)

This is a 36 x 36 inch painting. I began it about 3 years ago, and barely got started. I've put in about 4 hours so far and I am playing with some ideas. I've been doing a lot of scrapping and rubbing the oil paint...I am interested in a really textured piece.

My Studio

Here is my little, tiny, super crowded, I'm so glad I have it STUDIO! It is great...I think it will force me to work smaller! It has southern exposure, so the light is nice, windows that open, and a place for my comfy chair, where I will sit and paint or sit and think or sit and read or sit and draw. I am really happy to my creative space again.

Art...

I am starting another blog, solely dedicated to my art...I will photograph my paintings/work and post work in progress so that I can write down my thoughts...I hope to see improvement as the weeks pass...After 3+ years of not doing creative work, I am feeling full of new ideas and full of fears...some old, some new. But mostly I feel excited about paying attention to this part of me.
